| April 2009 Statutory holiday increases
|
The Government has amended the working time regulations to increase statutory paid holiday entitlement from four weeks to 5.6 weeks for all workers. It increases entitlement to paid holidays to a maximum 28 days calculated on a pro-rata basis, including bank and public holidays. Although the additional entitlement is designed to ensure that workers receive paid time off for public holidays in addition to their right to four weeks holiday under the working time regulations 1998, there is no obligation to allow workers to take these additional days on the public holidays. This means that the employers can require employees to work on bank or public holidays and then ask them to take the additional days leave another time. Current notice arrangements for requesting holiday, refusing requests or requiring holiday to be taken remain the same. |
