Hazardous Products-Infectious Substances

All operators of vehicles involved in the transportation of Class 6.2 Infectious Substances (see UN numbers listed below), please be aware of the changes in legislation effective from January 1st 2007. From this date, drivers of any size vehicle must be in possession of ADR certification when carrying quantities of infectious substances over certain thresholds, (see below) as required by the Health and Safety Executive. Chapter 1.6.1.9. and 8.2.1.1. of the ADR Carriage Regulations 2005 refer.

2814 Infectious substance, affecting humans. - any quantity
2900 Infectious substance, affecting animals. - any quantity
3291 Clinical waste, unspecified. – over 333kg.(In yellow UN approved bags any quantity)
3373 Diagnostic or clinical specimens. – any quantity, unless packaged in accordance with P650 of ADR which is exempt.

Novadata have specifically designed a course to enable your operation and your drivers to comply with this new legislation. The ADR course covering Core, Packages and Class 6.2 is the minimum that a driver would need to operate legally. If you only ever carry quantities of UN3291 Clinical Waste (unspecified) less than 333 kg then you would be ADR exempt, however, the driver would still require certificated training in the handling and security of hazardous materials as specified in the same legislation.

The ADR courses held at our Braintree premises take 2 days , the examination and certification for the ADR course is now handled by the Scottish Qualification Authority although the certificate itself is issued by the DVLA. The handling and security course is certificated by Novadata. The ADR course costs £125.00 + VAT + Exams per person.(minimum 10 maximum 16) We can hold the training at your premises including weekends at a cost of £695.00 + VAT per day + Exams.(maximum 16) The days do not have to be consecutive, all prices exclude VAT and do not include the examination fees of £60.00 per person. The Handling and Security of hazardous materials is a half day course at a cost of £55.00 per person (minimum 10).This course is required if exempt ADR but involved in handling or transporting these hazardous materials.
