Response to Redundancy (R2R)
The R2R project is supported by the European Social Fund and the East of England Development Agency. It offers services to people whose jobs are at risk, who may live within or outside the region but are employed by public and private sector organisations at a location in the East of England (excluding London).
The main aim of the programme is to provide support for the people who are under threat or notice of redundancy. To be eligible you must be aged 16 or over. You must be "signed on" to R2R before your leaving date. You may be a resident outside the East of England area, but must be working at a location in the East of England as described above.
R2R offers all those eligible a free one-to-one information and advice session, lasting around an hour. This is run with a professionally trained careers adviser, and aims to:
  • assess your current skills
  • explore your future career options
  • identify any training needed to improve you existing skills or help you to change career direction
R2R also offers a range of workshops to help you develop some essential skills and techniques for getting back into employment, for example, writing a C.V, preparing for an interview and tips on job search. These are normally organised and run by you careers adviser at your employer's premises, so if you are seeking support on an individual basis it is difficult for R2R to offer this part of the service.
If your one-to-one information and advice session identifies training to help improve your job prospects R2R can support one training episode at a cost of up to £1000.00 including VAT for any training not accredited NVQ 2 or above. For training resulting in an NVQ Level 2 or above funding can be provided up to £1200 at the discretion of the project.
The MOD promotes lifelong learning among members of the Armed Forces, and this is encouraged through the Learning Credits schemes. The Standard Learning Credit (SLC) (Pt 4 Ch 4) scheme supplies financial support, throughout the Service person’s career, for multiple, small-scale learning activities.
The Enhanced Learning Credit (ELC) scheme is designed to complement the SLC scheme by providing larger scale help to personnel who qualify, with a single payment in each of a maximum of three separate financial years, to help pay towards the cost of higher level learning. ELCs may be claimed for learning which is an integral part of and results in the cost effective achievement of a nationally recognised qualification at Level 3 (A level and equivalent) and above as defined by the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (England and Wales), a Level 6 or above on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) or, if pursued overseas, an approved international equivalent higher level qualification.
The ELC scheme complements the SLC scheme to further motivate full time members of the Armed Forces to pursue their personal development, both during their Service and for up to ten years afterwards, subject to the qualifying criteria being met.
