What is the ELCAS scheme and how can MOD personnel take advantage of it?

When someone leaves the armed forces, it can be difficult for them to know where to go. For those who have only ever known and lived by the rigorous routine of military life, transitioning to a civilian lifestyle can pose several challenges – especially when choosing a new career to follow.

Here’s how to take advantage of MOD resettlement training and determine the right path for you.

What is the ELCAS scheme?

ELCAS is a programme of funding which seeks to upskill members of the armed forces, supporting them as they move into civilian life and explore potential new careers and industries. It is managed by the MOD (Ministry of Defence) and covers a range of training programmes including transport management training, qualifications, and higher-level learning. ELCAS stands for Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Services and is a nationwide programme that funds additional training and skills development for those leaving the armed forces and looking to embrace a career or opportunity outside of the military.

In short, the ELCAS scheme has been created as a way of supporting those who have previously only worked in military roles, giving them access to lifelong learning so that they can continue to work outside of the forces. It enhances the employability of those leaving the army and other military groups, with funding available for up to three years of training.
