Novadata provides new training focus on bridge strike avoidance

Novadata has revised a popular Driver CPC course to create Driver CPC Actions After an Accident or Breakdown (incl. Bridge Strikes), to help the industry to tackle the perennial problem of bridge strikes through training.  The company has also added a new focus on bridge strike avoidance to its Transport Manager CPC Refresher and OLAT courses, helping to raise awareness of the seriousness of bridge strikes, and the need to tackle them via best practice, from boardroom to drivers’ cab.

Said Novadata Director Mark Lewin, “Bridge strikes are still one of the most serious problems on our road network, causing millions of pounds of damage and endless delays for traffic as a whole. While bridge strikes are a large vehicle problem, the results impact every form of road transport, so it is essential that this issue is tackled. Fines and penalties alone have done little to reduce the incidence of bridge strikes over the years, so we need to do more.

“We must look to professional training to raise more awareness of this issue, and the relatively simple steps which must be taken to ensure that we avoid bridge strikes where possible. We must use training to encourage managers and drivers to apply best practice, plan journeys with greater care, and be more actively aware of vehicle heights when planning and driving.”

Novadata has placed greater emphasis on bridge strike awareness in Driver CPC training during a renewal year for many drivers, in the hope that the future trend for bridge strike statistics will at last be in a downward direction. It has also strengthened this section of both its Transport Manager CPC Refresher and OLAT courses, for both the passenger transport and road haulage sectors.

Novadata also continues to offer market leading courses for Transport Manager CPC, ADR and DGSA qualifications, helping to raise standards of professionalism across the UK transport industry.
