Product Code: DCPCDSRSThis course examines the root causes of accidents and how personal characteristics (including driver behaviour) can affect driving risks. It has been developed to raise awareness of the consequences of unsafe driving and poor driving conduct, while encouraging improvements in driver behaviour and attitude, in order to improve road safety.
This course is suitable for both LGV and PCV drivers and counts as 7 hours towards Driver CPC.

- Raises awareness of root causes of accidents and the consequences of unsafe driving and poor driving conduct
- Positively encourages small improvements in driver behaviour and attitude, to increase driving standards and improve road safety
- Counts as 7 hours towards the 35 hours of periodic Driver CPC training required to gain or renew a Driver Qualification Card (DQC)
Vulnerable Road Users:
- Group discussion examining a serious incident involving a road user
- Exploration of the possible aftermath of such an incident and the potential consequences that could befall all parties (both the victim and the driver, and both of their families)
Bridge Strikes:
- Precautions to take to avoid occurrence
- Possible consequences of a bridge strike (in the medium to long term) to all parties (including employer, senior leaders, drivers)
Poor driving standards and root causes of accidents, including:
- Speed
- Driver behaviour
- Reckless driving
- Distractions while driving
- Effects of tiredness on driving
- Driving under the influence
Highway code:
- Importance of the Highway Code and its key purposes
- Importance it plays in promoting safe use of the roads
- New road hierarchy
- Legal role of the Highway Code (detailing the rules and their context in law)
