Novadata is a DVSA approved Driver CPC centre, offering National and International Driver CPC training courses in Essex for lorry drivers – LGV/HGV drivers. Our Driver CPC training courses are carried out with regard to the latest legislative changes, and delivered to a high and experienced standard. Please click on individual courses below for further details.
National and International Driver CPC
You can now choose between two types of Driver CPC training:
- International Driver CPC – allows you to drive overseas as well as in the UK
- National Driver CPC – allows you to drive only in the UK
If you ever drive professionally outside the UK, even occasionally, you should choose the International Driver CPC option. International Driver CPC is also fine for those who drive in the UK only. If in doubt, we recommend you opt for International Driver CPC.
Courses may be attended in person, in a classroom, or remotely, using Zoom.
Both options also permit the inclusion of a maximum of 12 hours of E-Learning.
International Driver CPC
This option is suitable for all drivers, including:
- Drivers who drive professionally overseas and within the UK
- Drivers who only make journeys within the UK
The format is the same as the familiar periodic Driver CPC training which was introduced for all professional LGV drivers in 2009.
To complete International Driver CPC, you are required to attend:
- Five seven-hour courses across each five-year period
- A total of 35 hours of training before your renewal deadline
A seven-hour course can be split across two 3.5-hour sessions, but these must take place within one 24-hour period.
National Driver CPC
This option is suitable for all drivers, including:
- Suitable for drivers who only make journeys within UK borders
- NOT suitable for those who ever drive professionally overseas
National Driver CPC allows shorter 3.5-hour courses.
To complete National Driver CPC, you are required to attend:
- Up to ten 3.5 hour courses across each five-year period
- OR five seven-hour courses across each five-year period
- OR A mixture of 3.5 hour and seven-hour courses across each five-year period
- A total of 35 hours of training before each renewal deadline
Like the seven-hour courses, 3.5-hour courses can be attended remotely, or in person in the classroom.
DQCs obtained via National Driver CPC training will NOT be valid for overseas journeys.
Return to Driving course
To encourage experienced drivers to return to the industry, the UK Government introduced a new Return to Driving course. This allows those whose DQC has expired recently – more than 60 days, but no more than two years previously – to resume their driving career without delay.
Please note: This only allows you to drive in the UK.
Drivers who complete the new Return to Driving course will be issued with a new DQC immediately. However, they are required to complete further National or International Driver CPC training within the first year.
After your Return to Driving course, within the next 12 months, you are required to attend:
- Four seven-hour National or International Driver CPC courses
- OR up to 8 National Driver CPC 3.5 hour courses
- OR a mixture of 3.5 hour and seven-hour courses
- A total of 28 hours further Driver CPC training
A Return to Driving course will be available from Novadata in the very near future. Please join our mailing list here so that we can alert you to course dates as soon as they become available.
Driver CPC E-Learning courses
E-Learning has been introduced for Driver CPC training courses, to allow greater flexibility in training. Drivers can choose to complete up to a maximum of 12 hours of E-Learning courses for either International or National Driver CPD.
A range of exciting new Novadata E-Learning courses will be introduced very soon.
Newly qualified HGV/LGV drivers
If you don’t already have a Driver Qualification Card (DQC), you passed your ordinary driving test after 1st January 1997 and you took your LGV driving test after 9th September 2009, you may need to take Initial Driver CPC training instead. Please contact us for advice as to the most appropriate training to obtain your DQC. Call 01376 552999 or email info@novadata.co.uk.
Our courses are all available to book above, but if you need any advice or prefer to book a course by phone, call us on 01376 552999. You can also email us at info@novadata.co.uk.
Plan your Driver CPC LGV/HGV courses:
When booking your Driver CPC courses, please bear in mind:
- ‘unnecessary repetition’ within each five-year period is not permitted
- If you attend the same course multiple times, some training hours may not be counted
- If you don’t reach your 35 hour total due to repeated courses, your DQC could be revoked
Some repetition is permitted; for example, in order to renew a first aid or ADR qualification; or if there is a change in transport legislation that requires you to update your knowledge.
Our 5-day Driver CPC courses are all designed to ensure that you tackle a breadth of subjects.
If you are taking a single course every year, which is highly recommended, please make sure you attend a variety of courses in order to renew your DQC.
Driver CPC training at your own premises
We are happy to provide Driver CPC training for groups of drivers at your own premises, or your locally hired venue. If you have a group of drivers, or wish to gather a group from similar companies or organisations in your area, we are able to provide expert trainers who can deliver several of our JAUPT/DVSA approved Driver CPC courses at the location of your choice.
Please contact us on 01376 552999 or email info@novadata.co.uk if you wish to discuss training at your own site.
If you have questions about Driver CPC, we may already have answered them. Please take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions page.
